Parent Organization: Political and Activist Organizations
The purpose of J Street U Middlebury is as follows:
To educate, advocate, and discuss along the lines of the “pro-Israel, pro-peace” agenda for peace, security and social justice in Israel, the future state of Palestine and across the Middle East as a part of the J Street U network. We aim to do the aforementioned by bringing speakers, organizing screenings, facilitating discussion events, sending weekly email briefings on news, politics and analysis from the region, and organizing meetings and discussion events on relevant subjects.
We are affiliated with J Street U, which is a national organization. We will have access to funding, subsidized programming, and programming ideas from them. Members of the board will also attend national and regional conferences, and have phone conferences with other J Street U branches within our region. However, we are also autonomous from J Street U and J Street, and have full flexibility in terms of programming and organizing.
J Street U Middlebury is open to everyone, regardless of political affiliation or views. The pro-Israel tag means in essence that J Street U Middlebury supports Israel's right to exist as a Jewish State, and advocates a two-state solution as the best and most equitable way to solve the conflict. One need not share all of the aforementioned views to participate; indeed J Street U Middlebury's aims of broad, nuanced and sustained education will best be met through members with a wide variety of views and opinions.
